While the overall look and layout remains smart, when seen next to Volvo's latest generation of cars (primarily the EX30) it starts to look a bit dated as its screen also looks quite small.<br/><br/>One thing you can't do without is the EX40's interior fit and finish. Although it's one of Volvo's cheaper models, the quality never feels that way due to an array of luxury materials used throughout. The Swedish firm has also ditched leather and adopted a range of sustainable alternative materials with its EX40 model. Our test car also has gorgeous wool cloth upholstery, giving it the feel of a more luxurious Scandinavian lounge rather than the interior of a compact SUV.<br/><br/>These seats play an important role in the overall feel of the EX40. We've spent a lot of time in XC40s over the years, and their seats are among the best on the market; offers plenty of power adjustments as well as an extendable seat base; Ideal for tall drivers.<br/><br/>Although theoretically no different from the XC40, we'll need more time to make a more definitive judgment on comfort with this newly updated Volvo.<br/><br/>Volvos are renowned for their safety, and there's little to suggest the EX40 will be any different. It is the name of a new special edition for the Japanese market, where the model is sold as the Crown Crossover. Aimed at outdoorsy people, the off-road version has increased ground clearance by an inch to better cope with tougher terrain.<br/><br/>Toyota equips the Crown Crossover Landscape with 18-inch two-tone wheels wrapped in 245/60 R18 off-road tires, and there are even contrasting red fenders behind them. The extra trim around the wheel arches has a matte finish, and we're told the fenders are hand-painted. Another upgrade is in the rear, where a tow hitch is available for hauling up to 1,653 pounds.<br/><br/>The limited edition version comes in Urban Khaki with black accents and features a rear fog lamp mounted near the license plate. For added practicality, a roof rack is optional and can be fitted at your dealer. Inside, Toyota gives the Crown Crossover Landscape a gloss black finish and laser engraving of the model's name on the passenger side of the dashboard.<br/><br/>Available only with all-wheel drive and a 2.4-liter hybrid powertrain, the upgraded sedan costs the equivalent of $45,300 in the Land of the Rising Sun. This was 15 years ago. There's now a new 4Runner – finally – and even though Toyota has rebuilt its iconic off-roader from the ground up, it retains its rugged spirit.<br/><br/>Also based on the new Tacoma, the 2025 4Runner uses the same TNGA-F truck architecture. It ditches the old 4.0-liter V-6 and five-speed automatic in favor of a standard turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 278 horsepower and 378 pound-feet of torque. That's 8 more hp than the current 4Runner and a whopping 100 additional pound-feet.<br/><br/>The optional I-Force Max hybrid version of the same engine produces 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. Both of these powertrains ditch the old five-speed in favor of a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, there is no manual to be found.<br/><br/>The 4Runner will be offered with two-wheel drive, part-time four-wheel drive and full-time four-wheel drive, depending on how you specify it. All 2WD models will feature a limited-slip differential, while 4WD models will feature the same LSD and electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high- and low-range gearing, as well as Toyota's Active Traction Control (A-Trac).<br/><br/>There's also what Toyota calls the new Stabilizer Bar Disconnect Mechanism for better articulation. This one-button access system allows the 4Runner to flex while keeping its tires on the ground. The 4Runner has a 32-degree approach and 24-degree departure angle.<br/><br/>And the new 4Runner promises to be even more capable. Mud, Dirt and Sand modes and a quieter Crawl Control function join the party in 2025, while new Trailhunter hardware (borrowed from the Tacoma) joins the rest of the lineup. Buyers will be able to choose from nine 4Runner trims: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off Road, TRD Off Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro and the aforementioned Trailhunter, the toughest of the bunch.<br/><br/>The 4Runner Trailhunter has 33-inch all-terrain tires that raise the ride height by 2.0 inches in the front and 1.5 inches in the rear. Two-and-a-half-inch Old Man Emu forged shocks with ARB-free reservoirs dot the corners of the suspension. There's also an ARB-designed roof rack, a high-mounted air intake for the I-Force Max powertrain (standard on the Trailhunter), a 20-inch light bar, and steel skid plates.
